*Actress Cherie Johnson, who played Laura Winslow’s best friend Maxine on “Family Matters,” was the subject of a semi-nude photo shoot on a Southern California beach last week and hopes the photos will lead to a spread in Playboy.

Johnson, who also starred in “Punky Brewster,” told TMZ: “I have been threatening my family that I was going to do ‘Playboy’ since I was 18 years old.”

Cherie, 35, adds, “When my mom said ‘Okay’ … and my grandma said, ‘Bring me a autographed copy,’ I figured I’d make it a goal.”

Jaleel White Irked by ‘Where Are They Now’ Questions

Jaleel White atends the premiere of Relativity Media's "Judy Moody and the NOT Bummer Summer" at ArcLight Hollywood on June 4, 2011 in Los Angeles

*This time last year, Jaleel White was in the headlines denying rumors that he was gay and that he had a relationship with former NBA star Penny Hardaway.

It was a frustrating distraction for the actor-writer-producer, who at the time was trying to promote the first ever DVD release of “Family Matters,” the 90s sitcom that made him a household name as the Winslow family’s loveable next-door-neighbor, Urkel.

A year later, White is now in movie theaters as school teacher Mr. Todd in the film “Judy Moody and the NOT Bummer Summer.”  This time there’s no fabricated scandal taking away from his promotion of the film. But, he did take a moment to discuss another source of frustration. It’s the notion that he’s been somewhere hibernating since the end of “Family Matters,” or that his career has since flatlined.

“I definitely have several more chapters left in my career,” he tells EUR during interviews for “Judy Moody.”

(L-R) Actors Garrett Ryan Ewald, Parris Mosteller, Jaleel White, Jordana Beatty, Preston Bailey and Jackson Odell arrive at the premiere of Relativity Media's "Judy Moody And The NOT Bummer Summer"

“For all the people who play the ‘Where is he now?’ game with me, it’s kind of tough to swallow sometimes, only because I know how young I’ve been throughout that, and how young I still am,” he says. “So you kind of have to just take it with a grain of salt and just be like, ‘Okay, the chapters will happen as they happen.’ But at least for a man in Hollywood, I’m still very, very young.”

White admits it’s difficult these days for people to keep up with the television work he’s been doing. When “Family Matters” was at its height, there was less cable competition, and no such thing as social media to lure people away from the boob tube.

“I was getting 18s, 19s, 20 – you know – these were the numbers I was pulling,” White says of “Family Matters’” ratings share in its heyday. “That’s absurd now. Those are Super Bowl numbers, NBA Finals numbers.  So you put that into perspective, it’s very difficult to get everybody’s attention at once – for a good reason.  For a negative reason, it could happen like that.”

“I had one girl come and ask me, ‘Wow, like, what have you been doing in the last 10 years?’” White recalls. “I was like, ‘Well, I did an episode of “Psych” last year, I was on “Boston Legal.” It’s like babe, I understand, there’s a lot of distractions out there.  They say a lot of people spend more time on their Facebook than they do even watching TV.”

Despite the blessings and curses that follow a former child star forced to carry an iconic role on his back for all eternity, Jaleel told us about a rare “honest moment” during the “Judy Moody” interviews that reminded him of why he became an actor in the first place.

That ‘Steve Urkel’ Guy (Jaleel White) to Appear on Premiere of ‘House’

*The guy we all remember as “Urkel” is starting to work with regularity again in Hollywood.

Jaleel White is making a guest appearance on the hit show “House.”

On the premiere episode, House (Hugh Laurie) and White will be prison buddies, picking up where the show left off in the previous season.

Meanwhile, White is steadily making appearances here and there on shows like “The Game,” “Psych,” and “Boston Legal.”

The 34-year-old actor even took a trip back to the old days of “Family Matters” and put on a signature sweater vest for Cee-Lo Green’s music video “Cry Baby.” If you missed it, check it out here.

oh yeah, White’s “House” premiere episode airs October 3 on Fox.

Jaleel White Wants Folks to Move On From ‘Urkel’

*Whether he likes it or not, Jaleel White has become part of American pop culture due to his memorable character of Steve Urkel on the ’90s sitcom “Family Matters.”

Since the role, White has tried to show that he can play more than just the geeky, annoying neighbor that he made famous. (He’s portrayed Bruce Lee, Elvis Presley and a member of the opposite sex.) But he doesn’t feel like people are giving him props for taking on a variety of roles.

“I’m very versatile, but somehow I didn’t earn the tag of being called a versatile actor,” White, 34, tells People. “I’m still chasing that one Vanity Fair tag that says, ‘This guy’s a versatile actor.’ I accept it. It’s fine. But for me, it’s like what do I have to do to get that [acknowledgement]?”

White, who says he gets “recognized everywhere I go,” isn’t big on reminiscing about the days of playing the character who made him a household name.

“I don’t [miss playing Urkel],” he says. “I really don’t. I’m not trying to get away from it or anything like that, but I don’t miss the role at all – really. I just want to work. I want my daughter to say, ‘I know what Daddy does,’ not ‘what Daddy did.”

White – who most recently played an inmate on Fox’s House, M.D. earlier this year – guest stars as a scheming wealthy director on the season premiere of fellow former child star Tatyana Ali’s latest sitcom, “Love That Girl!.” The actor says it’s “cool” sharing a screen with Ali, who he hasn’t filmed with since his small stint on “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air” many years ago.

The episode, which airs Monday night at 8 p.m. on TV One, is the first of many more roles to come, predicts White.

“I just want people to know I haven’t gone anywhere,” he says. “The passion was gone for awhile, but I’ve got my mojo back.”

Baby Mama Says Jaleel White is a Low Down Dog; He Responds

bridget hardy and jaleel white*Jaleel White’s sparkly clean image is in the midst of being ruined by his ex.

The mother of his child is coming out with what she alleges to be the truth about the man. She told the press he used to beat her and cheat on her.

Bridget Hardy, who hasn’t been very public about anything the two had or what they have together, told Star magazine that he’s got a different and very ugly side.

“He blew up,” she told Star about a fight the couple had after she confronted Jaleel over evidence of cheating she says she found on his phone in May 25, 2010. “He hit me across the chest area,” she said.

But it doesn’t stop there.

“He pushed me into the toilet, and it broke. Water went everywhere, through the walls and even to the kitchen downstairs,” she says.

On top of all that, she claims he was verbally and emotionally abusive and called her white trash. She also said he offered her $200,000 to leave their daughter with him while she starts her own family.

But she also admitted White tried to cover up their pregnancy to protect his image. He wasn’t ready to be in a committed relationship Hardy explained.

The actor has responded to the allegations, which he claims are “hurtful” lies stemming from a “malicious police report” filed in connection with a bitter child custody dispute.

He says, “When you’re doing well in life, it’s par for the course certain individuals will try and knock you down. When the individual is also the mother of your only child it is particularly hurtful…

“The allegations made against me back in 2010 have suspiciously resurfaced in time to coincide with my new show on Syfy and ‘Dancing With The Stars.’ Bridget Hardy has consistently shown a knack for timing throughout our child custody disputes.”

White is hoping to resolve the matter for the sake of his little girl, adding, “My only hope is that when my daughter Googles her parents one day in her future, she sees that her father acted with class and dignity when pressed to the fire.

“Bridget Hardy is the mother of my only daughter in this world and without Ms. Hardy I would not have the treasure that is my daughter… I can assure all of my fans this is only residue from a child custody matter.”

As his dance floor debut draws near, h the 35-year-old star sat down to dish on his multiple upcoming projects, fatherhood and his off-screen relationship with Kellie Shanygne Williams (Laura Winslow on “Family Matters”) – the long-desired object of Urkel’s bespectacled, suspendered affection.

“It was very brother-sisterly,” Jaleel said of his off-air status with Kellie. “She’s married now and we both have children. She moved back to Maryland and I think that was a good move for her. She’s readapted to real life and motherhood.”

Adding, “Kellie’s wonderful – she’s great. I always thought she was an incredibly underrated actress.”

Life has been good for White. Hanging with friends and doing his thing in the industry have been making things a lot smoother. But being a father is his primary focus.

The daddy of a two-and-half little girl, he’s glad to play this new permanent role in life.

“She’s old enough to understand that Daddy goes to work, she is old enough to understand that Daddy’s work puts him on the TV,” Jaleel told Access of his daughter’s comprehension of his career. “She will come hit me over the head with the ‘Judy Moody’ DVD and say, ‘Put Daddy in!’ and I think that’s really awesome.

“People ask all the time, ‘Does she know what you did?’ and I say, ‘No! You’re old, she’s young!” he added, laughing. “She knows me from ‘Judy Moody’ and the Cee Lo video ['Cry Baby’].”

Reginald Veljohnson: ‘People Still Ask Me, ‘Where’s Urkel?”

*No matter how many roles Reginald Veljohnson has taken on since the end of “Family Matters,” he will always be Carl Winslow to folks of a certain age.

The 59-year-old Queens native is currently putting in recurring work as Dash DeWitt on the CW series “Hart of Dixie” and as Brother Heywood on CBS’s “Mike & Molly.” And beginning next month, a whole new generation will come to know the veteran actor as Able, a voice in the upcoming Disney XD series, “TRON: Uprising.”

The show, premiering Thursday, June 7 at 9 p.m., takes place between the 1982 “TRON” film and last year’s “TRON: Legacy.” It follows young program Beck (Elijah Wood), a new character who becomes the unlikely leader of a revolution inside the computer world of The Grid.

Veljohnson’s Able is a father figure to Beck and his friends, Mara (Mandy Moore) and Zed (Nate Corddry); and he owns the garage where the three of them work. Able appears to be a good guy in the TRON universe, but Veljohnson warns that his character has “a dark past” – which will be revealed as the series progresses.

“Basically he’s a good guy, because he cares about the young programs. He cares about Beck and Mara and Zed,” he told EURweb during interviews for the series. “He warns them against the troubles of the villains that he knows – Tesler (Lance Henriksen), and maybe even Tron (Bruce Boxleitner). He knows more about them than they do and he tries to warn them in his fatherly way.”

Veljohnson, the only “Family Matters” cast member to appear in every episode of the show’s nine-year run knows a little something about playing father figures.  Just ask Urkel.

In fact, Veljohnson says “Family Matters” fans ask him about the show’s nerdy next-door-neighbor to this day, even though the sitcom has been off the air since 1998. Below, he attributes the continued interest to reruns – which splashes the Winslows and Jaleel White’s Steve Urkel across television screens every day.

‘Laura Winslow’ Caught in a Financial Scandal?

kellie shanygne williams*Steve Urkel’s beloved crush could be in the middle of a high profile scandal.

Kellie Williams, who played Laura Winslow on “Family Matters” of the late 80s and 90s is being accused of helping former Washington, D.C. Councilmember Harry Thomas Jr. steal money.

The man was sent to federal prison after admitting to stealing more than $350,000 in government fund and filing false tax returns. He was sentenced to 38 months in prison.

Now authorities are examining court records, tax filings and emails to unveil who the unnamed party is that court records say was used as a youth arts program to help Thomas steal money.

One writer presents the evidence, including Williams’ timing in the whole situation. After the sitcom ended in 1998, she started a youth arts training group in the D.C. area. It’s been dormant since 2008.

*BET is going the nostalgic route with a flood of new/old programming, thanks to a fresh off-net licensing deal with Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution.

Soon, the network and its sister station CENTRIC will begin airing reruns of “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air,” “Family Matters,” “Martin,” “The Jamie Foxx Show” and “The Wayans Bros.” to air on BET and CENTRIC.

The deal was unveiled today by Debra L. Lee, Chairman and CEO, BET Networks and Ken Werner, President, Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution.

“We’re thrilled to bring our audience more of the classic hits and award-winning actors they love on both BET and CENTRIC,” said Debra L. Lee, Chairman and CEO of BET Networks.

“A deal of this magnitude underlines the importance of securing well-known proven hit programming as a part of the foundation of a successful network schedule,” said Werner. “These series perform strongly across ethnic and age demos – maintaining their original fan bases while consistently being discovered by new audiences.”

‘Family Matters’ Dad Set to Play Lead Role in New Film

reginald veljohnson*Reginald VelJohnson, best known for his role on “Family Matters” as the befuddled father figure, is brining back his fun personality with a new family flick, “Angel’s Wings.”

He’s set to play ‘Coach Carter,’ a volunteer coach for the Angels, a youth soccer team, who takes his job a bit too seriously.

Joining him are Taylor Faye Ruffin, Tyler Humphrey, and Sean Huze.

Centered around the Angels soccer team, Coach Carter’s star player gets injured and decided to play the water girl. She’ s not the best and is actually quite clumsy but she takes it as a challenge and begins to improve.

But what her team doesn’t know is that she’s not doing it alone.

When things take a turn, the new player is forced to rely on her own talent.

Written and directed by Aaron L. Williams, the goal is to create more positive, uplifting content for the African American community.

“As an African American growing up when I did was tough. I remember wondering where were people that looked like me and my friends and family on television? Other than in the back of a squad car on Hill Street Blues. Think about it, there were so few positive portrayals of Black families and culture… especially Black men. On network television in the eighties and nineties, there were only two: Bill Cosby and Reginald VelJohnson. To work with him on this film is a real blessing.”

Filming for the new movie started over Memorial Day weekend.
